History Of Elk In Utah
Prior to settlement by the Mormons, elk and bighorn sheep were the most numerous big game animals in Utah. Elk hunting in Utah was a significant source of food and clothing for Indians, trappers and settlers. Like so many other species - bison and mule deer for example - elk were the victims of unlimited hunting in Utah.
